Departing from Gatwick Airport with young children, toddlers and babies can be stressful for parents. With this guide we aim to cover concerns and queries from parents who are flying with babies and very young children.

Flights with Small Children, Toddlers and Babies...

Flying out of Gatwick Airport with a small child, toddler or young baby can be a frightening experience. Here you'll find many tips and advice on travelling with infants, including hand luggage and what to include for the little ones.

Seat Allocation for Children ...

Check that your airline has provisions for adults travelling with young children, toddlers or babies such as suitable seating, travel cots etc.

The majority of airlines have bulkhead seats, situated at the front of each cabin section, for use by families. In some instances you can pre-book, others it's a first come, first served basis. It varies from airline to airline so check with your airline what their policy is in advance.

Check-in with Young Children...

Leave yourself plenty of time to get to Gatwick Airport. Just cast your mind back to how long it can take just getting to the shops! You never know when you might have to pull over for an emergency toilet stop or nappy change - even the quickest stop adds time to your journey.

Plan your journey - do you know the route? How about if there are road works or general delays? Make sure you have an alternative route or at the very least a map in your car. What about the time it will take to park etc. How long will that be in total? Add half, to an hour to be on the safe side.

Guide to Easier Travel with Children ...

Travelling by car - avoid any stress once you arrive at the airport by pre-booking your airport parking.

For the ultimate in stress free parking book a meet and greet parking service . This way you won't have to struggle finding the car park, or getting you and your family, plus all that baggage and hand luggage, onto a bus.

It's so easy - a Rep will meet you right outside your airport terminal, unload your luggage and proceed to check-in! The meet and greet parking service Rep takes your car away to a safe and secure area for the duration of your trip. When you get back you come out of the terminal and your Rep will be there with your car, leaving you to get straight off home, not having to queue for a bus!

Check to see if the flight is full or empty when you check-in. If there are empty seats ask to be situated next to these. Very handy for small children to stretch out and go to sleep.

If you are travelling with children you are likely to be asked to board first. Make sure you do this as the cabin crew can spend extra time helping you and your family.

Preparation is key when travelling with children. Avoid any nasty surprises, be ready for any 'little emergency', above all get your journey off to the right start!

Purchasing Baby Foods, Milk & Drinking Water Overseas

How To Buy Baby Foods Overseas

Many parents worry about going away with a baby or young toddler and not being able to buy their usual formula or baby food. In the following sections we aim to provide some helpful information about purchasing your baby essentials whilst away including foods and nappies.

Always try and pack a supply of baby foods in your baggage. This is so you can arrive safely at your destination and get settled before rushing off out in a blind panic trying to find formula – it’s especially worth packing some pre-bottled packs of formula milk too - or jars of baby food etc.
Safe Water For Babies

Never give your baby or toddler water to drink from the tap when overseas. This will upset their delicate tummies and can be very dangerous.

You need to find bottled water that has less than 30 Na of sodium - the label on the bottle will tell you this information. If you’re travelling to Spain many of their pharmacies sell specially distilled water for babies.
Formula Milk

Whilst formula milk is readily available in Europe you will need to go to a pharmacy to purchase it. Similar brands are available but carry a different name, Cow & Gate in Spain for instance is called Almiron. For more information about buying your particular brand of milk overseas you should call the telephone advice line on the pack of your milk packet.
Buying Jarred Baby Foods

Anyone travelling to Europe will find it easy buying baby food in jars. Hero is a very available baby food in Spain and across Europe. Hipp is also readily available as are products from Nestle. Local supermarkets, although if you are somewhere remote then try a larger main supermarket, should all stock a good selection of baby foods and snacks. As will most pharmacies.

Buying Nappies

Buying nappies abroad is very easy. Just try any local supermarket where both main brands such as Huggies and Pampers are readily available. It’s important to note that in many European Countries cotton nappies are very rare, particularly in Spain, so if you normally use re-useable nappies then you may need to consider using disposables whilst you are away.
